"I found a writing voice I did not think I was capable of – I am amazed." – Anne Hawthorne ****************************************** “I have taken three writing seminars with Sakada. She has the uncanny ability to lead you on a tour through your own mind, assisting you as you harvest stories and ideas that you never knew you had. I would highly recommend her classes to anyone.” –Emily Beeler Writer & DVM ****************************************** Raw kale fig and tea Where are we going with this? GeniusWork Writing The sliced fig was displayed on a white plate. “What’s that?” I asked. It’s a fresh fig. I took a bite. It was a tad guilty, a little telling, chal- lenging, erotic, ultimately a pleasure. My first taste of fresh fig was at a writer’s workshop. Sakada’s approach to coaching is much like eating a fig–you are drawn to it, maybe even feel a little pushed by it, but ultimately drawn in. In the end, you are glad you did it. During the “warm up exercises” there are moments when you feel lost, where are we going with this? You want to stop writing, but the time’s not up. Finally, you stop and do a cold read. Did I write that? Then it’s time to share…. It’s a process. Initially, you bring your best work sure that you are going to wow the other writers with your witty and insightful prose. Then it happens, someone questions your work – or worse, sees what you thought you had so carefully hidden. Some- times you didn’t see it at all…. Over time, things shift. You bring your works-in-progress, your “bad” writing, your stalled journeys, your wild dreams. You look forward to the feedback. You begin to finish pieces and submit them!
